Gathering Stones | Year-End Giving

Dear Friends,
In time of reflection we recognize this has been a painful and challenging season. The year 2020 was set up to be a year of growth and expansion for Cornerstone Counseling Ministries. We were excited to roll out two big partnerships in the Philadelphia region with City Life Church and the American Bible Society.

…enter Covid-19.

Our board and staff began to pray, within weeks we transitioned from a traditional in-person counseling center to a fully functioning virtual counseling center providing tele-therapy. We then felt led to provide four free support groups to encourage finding hope through Covid-19. We were able to utilize tele-therapy services through City Life Church and serve the Philadelphia community. We also launched a fully virtual Trauma Healing Initiative in partnership with the American Bible Society. Through these new expressions of ministry, we were able to continue witnessing the transformation of peoples' hearts and minds to Christ-centered living.

Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you.

In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.

These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.
— JOSHUA 4: 5-7

In Joshua 4: 1-9, we see God’s people gathering stones as a reminder of God’s power and faithfulness – we too want to gather “stones” to remind us of God’s power and faithfulness through this year.

We would not have been able to provide this extensive level of care for our community without your prayers, encouragement, and financial support. Because of your generous giving we offered counseling services to our community in a time of isolation, fear, grief, and pain. We thank God for showing his faithfulness through you, our faithful partners.

We would like to invite you to redeem the challenges of this past year. Read Joshua 4: 1-9, and find a stone to use for the following activity. This stone ties back to the scripture to the right and is a symbol for God’s promise to you. What has God revealed to you and your family in 2020? Over this holiday season, we encourage you to sit with your family and reflect on this year - the struggles and surprises, the joys and sorrows, the grief and goodness. Invite God into this time. As you each hold the stone, share how God has made Himself known to you in 2020.

We ask that in this time with your family, you would think about those who have struggled with anxiety, depression, loneliness, fear, stress, grief, loss, political unrest, racial tension etc. during the difficulties of this year. Would you join us in praying for our hurting community and financially partner with us to care for those struggling? Your gift could be the “stone” in someone else’s life to restore their hope, peace, and purpose.
