Group Counseling

According to the American Counseling Association, group counseling allows one to find out that they are not alone in their type of life challenge. To be involved in a group of peers who are in a similar place not only increases one’s understanding of the struggles around the topic but also the variety in the possible solutions available. Typically, groups have up to eight participants, one or two group leaders, and revolve around a common topic like: anger management, self-esteem, divorce, domestic violence, recovery from abuse and trauma, and substance abuse recovery.

At CCM we typically run two types of groups: support groups and counseling groups. Support Groups are less formal and can be peer-led or counselor-led. These groups are made up of individuals discussing similar experiences and providing support for each other. These groups typically only require a cost to cover materials.

Counseling Groups are led by trained Graduate-Level Counselors and meet for 6-8 weeks. These groups are generally 1.5 hours; including psycho-education and clinical processing. These groups are facilitated with a specific counseling theory in mind. There is typically a cost for this evidence-based therapy.
